Can one have a catenoid with a handle?

Here is an attempt: One can grow little necks towards each other, but they will never fit together. If one lets the handles grow outwards, one obtains at least a nice singly periodic minimal surface.

In fact, it is a famous theorem of Rick Schoen that an embedded minimal surface with two ends must be the catenoid.
