The Doubly Periodic Scherk Surface |

Discovered by Scherk in 1835, this surface is doubly periodic. As a graph, it is defined over the white squares of a checkerboard, with vertical lines at the corners. The quotient surface by the translations has genus 0 and four annular ends. |
